Ten events, listed by the Prophet ﷺ in a single sitting, stand between now and the end of the world. Here is the sourced list, without the speculation.
The companions were sitting together, talking about the end of the world, when the Prophet ﷺ walked in on the conversation. He asked what they were discussing. The Hour, they said. And instead of changing the subject, he gave them a list. "It will not come until you see ten signs before it," and then he named them, one sitting, one narration: the Smoke, the Dajjal, the Beast, the sun rising from its west, the descent of Isa son of Maryam, Yajuj and Majuj, three great landslides, one in the east, one in the west, one in Arabia, and the last of them, a fire emerging from Yemen that drives mankind to their place of assembly. That is the answer to this article's question, delivered by the only man authorized to give it. Ten major signs. What follows walks the list, sourced line by line, with the speculation left where it belongs: outside.
First, the discipline the texts impose. The signs are named; their dates are not. Their sequence, with rare exceptions, is not fixed either; the narration names the Yemen fire as the last, and the wider narrations put the Dajjal, Isa, and Yajuj and Majuj in a connected arc, but the rest resist a timeline. Every generation that tried to pin the schedule embarrassed itself on the record. So read the list as it was given: not a calendar, but a set of tripwires. When they begin, the narrations describe them following one another closely, like beads slipping off a cut string.
The centerpiece arc is covered in the long narrations: the Dajjal, the great deceiver, appears and runs the most successful lie in history; then Isa, son of Maryam, descends and ends him. Then, while the earth still smells of that victory, Yajuj and Majuj break loose, exactly as the Qur'an foretold: "Until, when the dam of Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevation, descend" (21:96). And close behind it, the verse continues, "the true promise has approached" (21:97). Three signs chained together: the liar, the prophet, the flood of nations. Two signs come straight from the Qur'an's own mouth. The first: "Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke, covering the people; this is a painful torment" (44:10-11). Visible, the verse insists. Not a metaphor you need a scholar to decode for you on that day; a thing in the sky that everyone sees.
The second is stranger still: "And when the word befalls them, We will bring forth for them a creature from the earth speaking to them, that the people were, of Our verses, not certain in faith" (27:82). A creature, from the earth, that speaks. The verse gives its message and nothing else, and the discipline of this site is to stop where the sources stop. What matters is its job description: it arrives when the decree has already fallen, a walking announcement that the age of debating the verses is over.
One sign closes a door forever. The Prophet ﷺ said that the Hour will not be established until the sun rises from its west, and when it does, all the people of the earth will believe at once, and it will do them no good: on that day, faith will not benefit a soul that had not believed before.
Sit with the mechanics of that. Every morning of human history, the sunrise has been a mercy and a test at once: regular enough to doubt, glorious enough to believe. One morning the regularity itself will break, the proof will become undeniable, and undeniable proof is precisely the kind that earns nothing. Belief only counts while disbelief is still possible. That is the entire logic of this world, printed in a single sunrise.
The list ends with geology and flame: three massive sinkings of the earth, east, west, and the Arabian peninsula, and then the final sign, a fire from Yemen that drives people to their place of gathering. Not a fire that destroys; a fire that herds. The last event of ordinary history, in the Prophet's ﷺ telling, is humanity being moved, together, toward the plain where the next article in this series begins.
Notice what the Prophet ﷺ did not tell the companions that day: no dates, no survival plan, no map. The list was not given to make its readers analysts. It was given to make them ready. Every sign on it is a scheduled demolition of some certainty people lean on instead of Allah: the deceiver breaks trust in miracles, the western sunrise breaks trust in nature's habits, the fire breaks trust in staying put. The believer reads the list and draws the one conclusion it was published for: the structure is temporary, the exit is real, and the time to move is before the tripwires start to sing.
