Every verse of every revealed book passed through one being. The Quran lists his credentials like a security clearance: strength, rank, obedience, trust.
Every word of the Quran you have ever heard travelled the same route. It left the presence of Allah, and it was carried down through the heavens by one being, entrusted to him alone, until he delivered it to the heart of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Torah of Musa (AS), the Injil of Isa (AS), the same courier. If revelation is the most precious cargo in existence, then the question of who carried it matters more than almost any question you could ask about the unseen. His name is Jibril (AS), and the Quran introduces him the way you would introduce someone before handing him the fate of the world.
Listen to how Surah at-Takwir presents him, clause by clause, like a clearance file being read aloud: the Quran is "a word conveyed by a noble messenger, possessed of power, and with the Owner of the Throne secure in position, obeyed there, and trustworthy" (81:19-21).
Four credentials. Power, because the message must not be taken from him by force. Station with the Owner of the Throne, because the messenger must have access to the source. Obeyed among the angels, because he commands the ranks above the sky. And trustworthy, amin, because everything depends on the last one. A courier with strength and rank who alters one letter is worthless. The Quran's other name for him says the same thing in two words: "The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down upon your heart... in a clear Arabic language" (26:193-195). Ar-Ruh al-Amin. The Spirit that does not tamper.
Surah an-Najm describes the Prophet's ﷺ teacher: "Taught to him by one intense in strength, one of soundness. And he rose to his true form while he was in the higher part of the horizon" (53:5-7). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ usually met Jibril (AS) in the shape of a man. Twice he saw the reality behind the shape, and the hadith gives the detail that ends every attempt at imagination: he saw Jibril (AS) in his true form with six hundred wings.
The strength is not decoration. The books of tafsir relay that it was Jibril (AS) who was sent to overturn the cities of Lut (AS), lifting them on the edge of a wing. This is the being who then "approached and descended, and was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer" (53:8-9) from our Prophet ﷺ, power of that scale folding itself close to deliver a message gently, verse by verse, over twenty three years.
Strangely, the Quran also records that Jibril (AS) has enemies. Some of the People of the Book declared they could accept any angel but him, because he was the one who brought the revelations and the decrees they resented. Allah's answer draws a line under his status forever: "Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel, it is he who has brought it down upon your heart by permission of Allah, confirming that which was before it, and as guidance and good tidings for the believers" (2:97). The verse continues into a warning that whoever is an enemy to Allah, His angels and His messengers, then Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers. Hating the courier, Allah declares, is hating the Sender.
Notice also the phrase both surahs share: upon your heart. Revelation was not dictated into the Prophet's ﷺ ears like a letter. It was pressed onto his heart, and Jibril (AS) was the one being in creation trusted to make that delivery.
For all his cosmic scale, the most famous appearance of Jibril (AS) is disarmingly quiet. One day a man walked into the gathering of the companions, dressed in intensely white clothing with intensely black hair, showing no trace of travel, and known to no one. He sat down knee to knee with the Prophet ﷺ and asked: what is Islam? What is Iman? What is Ihsan? When is the Hour? He confirmed each answer as if grading it, which startled the companions, a questioner correcting the one he questions. When he left, the Prophet ﷺ said: that was Jibril, he came to teach you your religion.
The being of six hundred wings compressed himself into a traveller with no luggage so that a definition of the entire religion could be spoken out loud and preserved. Muslims still call it the hadith of Jibril, the syllabus of Islam delivered by the same courier who delivered the Quran.
And here is the detail that turns awe into tenderness. Jibril (AS) did not drop off the revelation and vanish. Every Ramadan, he came to the Prophet ﷺ every night, and the two of them reviewed the Quran together, the courier and the recipient going over the cargo line by line. In the final year of the Prophet's ﷺ life, they reviewed it twice.
That is who Jibril (AS) is. Not a winged decoration from children's stories, but the most trusted being in the unseen world, strong enough to overturn cities, ranked above the angels, precise enough that not one letter shifted in transit, and faithful enough to keep showing up, night after Ramadan night, to the heart he had been delivering to for twenty three years. When you recite even a single verse, you are receiving a package that passed through his hands unaltered. The Trustworthy Spirit did his job. The rest of the delivery, from the page into your life, is yours.
