The Warning Every Prophet Carried

There is one trial so great that no prophet was sent without warning his people of it. Not one. From the first messenger to the last ﷺ, the warning was the same: beware the one-eyed liar.

The Prophet ﷺ said there has been no trial on the face of the earth, since Allah created the children of Adam, greater than the trial of the Dajjal. He spoke of him so often, and so plainly, that the companions felt as though he were in a corner of the date-palms nearby.

He comes in a time of confusion. And between his eyes is written a single word — kafir, disbeliever — that every believer will be able to read, lettered or not.

What He Brings

He will not arrive empty-handed. With him will be what looks like a paradise and what looks like a fire. But the Prophet ﷺ warned: what he calls his paradise is the fire, and what he calls his fire is the mercy.

He will command the sky, and it will rain. He will command the earth, and it will bring forth its harvest. He will pass a ruin and say, “Bring out your treasures,” and its treasures will follow him like bees follow their queen.

This is the test: not a monster the eye recoils from, but a deceiver dressed as a saviour — power and provision offered to a starving, frightened people, at the price of their faith.

The One Defense

Against all of this, the believer is not left without a weapon. The Prophet ﷺ taught that whoever memorizes the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.

And he gave a second instruction, plain enough for a child: he is one-eyed, and your Lord is not one-eyed. No matter what the Dajjal displays, this one truth dismantles the whole claim — for the false god is defective, and the True God is free of all defect.

The strongest among the believers will be tested hardest. One man will be cut in two and walk back to him whole, and still refuse him. That is the faith the days of the Dajjal demand.

The End of the Lie

His reign will not last. ‘Isa ibn Maryam — Jesus, the Messiah — will descend, and the Dajjal will melt before him as salt melts in water. The lie that every prophet warned against will end at the hands of a prophet.

The Prophet ﷺ told us all of this not to frighten us, but to arm us. The trial is real, but it is named, mapped, and beatable. The only people it destroys are the ones who were never warned — or were warned, and chose not to listen.
